Sustrans and Bath and North East Somerset Council would like to make the journey between Compton Martin and Whitchurch on National Cycle Network Route 3 quieter and safer for everyone. To achieve this, we want to understand local people’s experience of day-to-day journeys within and in between villages such as Compton Martin, Chew Magna, Norton Hawkfield and Whitchurch using roads and paths that follow National Cycle Network Route 3. Therefore, we would like the community to share their experiences and help shape the initial designs for improvements, with a view to applying for further funding so that improvements can be completed. These designs could include things like improvements to footways, improvements to crossing places, signage, traffic calming and making roads more accessible for people with different lived experience of disability.
Your input will help shape changes to Route 3 and create a more welcoming road and path environment for all community members. This project is funded by the Department for Transport through Active Travel England and aims to be completed by spring 2026.
Here’s how you can get involved and share your experiences of Route 3 with us:

These are drop-in events, so you can arrive and leave as you please. Sustrans staff will be facilitating conversations with event attendees, asking you about your experiences of Route 3 – we’re keen to hear about any concerns you may have about the route and what could be improved. We will have maps of Route 3 available to aid conversations, as well as refreshments such as tea/coffee.
Please find our events poster attached to this email, which provides a summary of our event details.
